Annual "Faculty Idol" Music Competition 2012

The Lemont High School students and faculty members will team up this Friday for the Speech program's annual "Faculty Idol" wonderful music competition. "Faculty Idol 6" will include singing and dance numbers from as many as 10 faculty/student duets or groups. This year, the event will lose the backing track, eliminate karaoke and prominently feature instruments and voices.

Each act will perform once, and judges will chose their top five entrants to perform one more song in the top finals. The audience's applause will determine the winner.The current lineup of faculty and staff members includes two-time Faculty Idol champion (2008, 2010) and great Music teacher Matt Doherty, 2007 winner and Career and Technical Education Chair Ken Ferry, Math teacher Ashley Good and English teacher Phil Lazzari.

Judging the competition will be Fine Arts Chair David Nommensen (as Randy Jackson), English teacher Marek Dron (as Steven Tyler) and Spanish teacher Christie Klingsporn (as Jennifer Lopez). Science teacher Scott Collins (as Ryan Seacrest) will host the event, and will be assisted by seniors Kevin Driscoll and Rhiannon Lindgren.

Faculty Idol 6 will kick off with a special performance from the group Out of Synch, which includes last year's champion, English teacher Jon DeGuzman.

American singer great Lady Gaga will perform in Romania on August 16 this year, at the National Arena stadium in Bucharest, according to Romanian media, quoting sources with the organizers.

She exceeded the 1 billion views threshold on YouTube in October last year.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts-Festival

Last june, the news detonated across America’s skinny-jeans-wearing populace with the shock of a 4,000-pound bomb. A multitude Of Excellent Musical Genres

Perth has been great blessed with a plethora of world-class artists from a multitude of excellent musical genres for the weekend. It started last night with Stevie Wonder and Taylor Swift, and will end with metal and punk festival Sound wave on Monday.

The biggest crowd is expected at Arena Joondalup tomorrow for the FutureMusic festival to see headliners New Order and Fatboy Slim. With 37,000 people expected, it has taken Big Day Out's mantle as the biggest festival on WA's music calendar.

Future Music promoter Brad Mellen said the big crowds expected showed the economic importance of the live music industry.In light of this year's watered-down Big Day Out and sluggish ticket sales for other events, Sound wave promoter AJ Maddah said the festival had flourished because of its "sense of community" and its distinct identity as a rock festival.

Other high-profile gigs this week include British pop sensation Jessie J at Challenge Stadium and indie-folk singer Bon Iver, who will close the Perth Festival with his sold-out great Red Hill auditorium gig.

Dancing With the Stars-Drama

As usual, there’s plenty of drama on the set of “Dancing With the Stars” ranging from a rumor of budding romance to a tale of outright hatred.

On the happier side of that equation, that very hot kiss Monday night between Maria Menounos and Derek Hough sparked immediate buzz about the duo being a couple which the TV personality and pro dancer have been quick to squelch.

Menounos and Hough immediately “clicked,” according to a veteran “DWTS” staffer, who added, “I’ve never seen a celebrity and professional dancer hit it off as well as these two have and from the moment they met!”

The Star Dancers National Dance Convention Of New York City

The wonderful Sparx dance team of Halftime by Sheri Dance Studio in West Fargo, recently was selected to attend the 2012 All Star Dancers National Dance Convention in New York City.

They were chosen to attend after excellent performing a jazz/kick routine at the Applause Dance Competition in Minneapolis. The five-day convention will include a dance workshop and “mock audition,” taught by the world famous Radio City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall.

The tour also will include Master Dance Classes at New York’s premier dance studio, The Broadway amazing Dance Center. Students also have classes taught by New York’s Broadway Show Performers. The convention is coordinated by Artistic Adventures of California.

The Highest Charting UK Boy Band In The US Singles Charts.

The great five-piece act were formed in 2010 by the X Factor judges after they failed to impress as solo artists. Band member Harry Styles said reaching number one was a "dream come true" for the group. "We simply cannot believe that we are number one in America. We want to thank each and every one of our fans in the US who bought our album and we would also like to thank the American public for being so supportive of us."

Fellow band member Niall Horan added as you can imagine, we are over the moon. "When we got put together as a group, we couldn't imagine ourselves coming to America, let alone releasing our album here, so for us to be sitting at the top of the US album charts is unbelievable."

X Factor judge and music executive Simon Cowell signed the band to his record label
Syco Music last year. "I couldn't be happier for One Direction, it is an incredible achievement. They deserve it. They have the best lovely fans in the world," Cowell said. The feat comes in the same week it was announced the band have secured their own US TV show.

The success One Direction's number one follows their successful debut in the singles chart with What Makes You Beautiful last month, which went to number 28 in the Hot 100.The group, who have just finished their US tour and are now back in the UK, will perform live on the Jay Leno show later this month.They have already sung live on the Ellen show and Chelsea Lately.

Based on the book by the same name, with 23.5 million copies in print in the U.S., the movie set the record for first day advance fast sales beating Twilight when tickets went on sale on February 22.

Dancing With The Stars Performance Hall Show

The great American Idol’s Gina Glocksen and seen “Dancing with the Stars’” Edyta Sliwinska on TV. Stars from Fox TV’s realty TV singing competition, professionals from excellent dancing competitions on ABC and Fox will be on stage for a song and dance extravaganza “Ballroom with a Twist” on March 27. Best of all, said Sliwinska, there are no judges.

“Amazing Performing without the factor of the competition, it’s liberating. No matter how you look at ‘Dancing with the stars, there’s the pressure to do well and the pressure to be judged.”

Sliwinska’s husband, Alec Mazo, was the first winner, with Kelly Monaco, in July 2005.

Auditions for ‘Titanic, the Musical’ announced by EOU

The Eastern Oregon University Theatre and Music programs are satisfied to publicize universal and open auditions for their future manufacture of “Titanic, the Musical.”

EOU and La Grande community announce auditions will be held in McKenzie Theater or the choir room 14 of March at 5 to 8 p.m. A sign-up sheet for audition times will be posted on the board in the Green Room and people can get a sign-up time by calling 541-962-3318.

EOU and La Grande community members should come practiced with a song from the musical for a part in which they are interested.

“Titanic, the Musical” performances will be May 17-20 at 7 p.m.

Auditioners should come prepared with a calendar of their schedule for the months of April through May. Call backs will be March 15 as required at 6 p.m. in the McKenzie Theater.
