Dance fever catches on among Indians, thanks to TV

New Delhi, Feb 1 - Salsa, tango, B-Boying and hip-hop -- global dance forms have become household names and more people want to study them thanks to a flood of dance reality shows on TV. What's more, these shows also offer a springboard to the glamorous world of showbiz for budding dancers.

While it all started with "Boogie Woogie" in 1995 on Sony TV, the little screen now has a long list of dance reality shows - "Jhalak Dikhla Ja", "Dance India Dance" (DID), "Chak Dhoom Dhoom" and "Nachle Ve".

Choreographer Rajeev Surthi, who has made stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra between others dance to his tunes, is a product of a dance reality show himself and says these shows certainly help aspiring dancers.
