Grease is still the word

Jack Barry's mum is probable to be his number one fan when performances of the Rosehill College musical Grease begin on August 3.

She's a very big fan. She's the one who introduced me to Grease, Barry says as he slicks back his hair in true Danny Zuko manner.

Back in the day we used to watch it every time.

After an imposing performance at auditions the 16-year-old scored the lead role in the school's biennial musical beside 13-year-old Darby Fullerton as Sandy Olsson.

While Jack has used the last few school terms to brush up on his vocals, his acting skills have previously been proven – he was nominated for the most excellent supporting actor award at the 2009 Showdown Auckland secondary school production contest for his role in the Diary of Anne Frank.

Diary of Anne Frank director and Rosehill's head of drama Stacey Bolt topped her type at the 2009 Showdown Awards and takes on the director's role once more this time around.
